PURPOSE:To make the high-rate discharge performance and high-rate charge performance of an anode plate better than those of an anode plate whose thickness is adjusted by a roll press, by immersing the paste-type anode plate in an alkali while applying pressure to the plate, to change CdO into Cd(OH)2, and thereafter subjecting the plate to formation without applying pressure thereto. CONSTITUTION:An anode plate provided by coating a porous metal plate with a paste comprising a powder of CdO and a caking agent, is immersed in an alkaline aqueous solution while pressure is applied to both the sides of the plate, so that the CdO is changed into Cd(OH)2. The plate is then subjected to formation while pressure is not applied thereto. The thickness of the plate is thus prevented from increasing. Since the pores of the plate near the surface thereof are not closed by a physical roll press, it is made easy for an electrolytic solution and oxygen gas to diffuse into the plate than into a roll-pressed anode plate. |
