PURPOSE:To shift the potential of a negative electrode to a negative side to obtain a CO-O2 fuel cell having higher voltage by changing the electrode reaction of the negative electrode to the oxidation reaction of a platinum group metal instead of that of conventional copper. CONSTITUTION:A negative electrolyte 20 is circulated between a negative chamber 12 and a CO absorber 2. The negative electrolyte 20 flows on the upper surface of a negative electrode 10, and its flow rate is kept lower than that in a supply pipeline and an exhaust pipeline. The negative electrolyte 20 absorbs CO 30 in a CO absorber 2, and deposits a platinum group metal while it is supplied to the negative chamber 12. Since the flow rate of the negative electrolyte is decreased while it flows the negative chamber, the platinum group metal is deposited and accumulated on the surface of a negative electrode 10. This accumulated platinum group metal is oxidized by electrode reaction, and dissolved as metal ions again. The dissolved platinum group metal is returned to the CO absorber 2 from the negative chamber 12 as the negative electrolyte 20 flows. |
