PURPOSE:To form a uniform orientation film and to prevent occurrence of disturbance of orientation in the peripheral part of a displayed pattern by constituting a mask layer of a material contg. a dye or a pigment in a resin compsn. which is the same kind as the orientation film. CONSTITUTION:Orientation films 6, 7 are formed by print-coating polyimide resin dried resin dried at low temp. which is the same kinds as a mask layer 5 resin on the inside surface of each of a display substrate 1 and a counter substrate 3 and drying by heating for 20min at 180 deg.C. Then, the display substrate 1 is arranged to face oppositely to the counter substrate 3, and a cell is constructed by laminating both by sealing the peripheral part with a sealing material. Since the mask layer 5 and the orientation film 7 are both constituted of polyimide resin in this liquid crystal display element, the uniform orientation film 7 is formed without causing repulsion of the orientation film 7 by the mask layer 5. By this constitution, generation of disturbance of the orientation of the liquid crystals in the peripheral part of the display pattern is prevented, and sufficiently high display quality is obtd. |
