PURPOSE:To make efficiency of an induction motor higher and to miniaturize and lighten said motor by forming internal and external cylindrical magnetic poles in an annular stator in each phase and by opposing a cage rotor to said internal and external cylindrical magnetic poles via an air gap. CONSTITUTION:An induction motor 10 is equipped with a stator 12 and a rotatably supported cage disc rotor 14, and first-phase and second-phase toroidal drive windings 22, 24 are arranged in said stator 12. Internal cylindrical magnetic poles 26, 30 and external cylindrical magnetic poles 28, 32 are arranged on the inside and outside of said drive windings; a plurality of comblike circular pole pieces 28P are formed in the magnetic pole 28 circumferentially with the space of a pitch angle of alpha deg., and a plurality of comblike circular pole pieces 32P in the magnetic pole 32 at the same pitch angle of alpha deg. to said pole pieces 28P and with a phase delayed by 90 deg. at an electrical angle. Then, if the winding 22 is connected with a commercial power supply and the winding 24 with said power supply via a capacitor, an induced current is generated in a cage winding 48 of the rotor 14 to rotate said rotor 14.
