PURPOSE:To carry out favorable combustion over all load zones of an engine by providing two intake ports in parallel, providing intake valves on both of said intake ports respectively, and providing an intake control valve on one of said ports while a fuel injection valve on the other. CONSTITUTION:Intake ports 20 and exhaust ports 22 are oppositely provided on a cylinder head 14 and intake valves 24 and exhaust valve 26 are provided to these ports respectively. Also, two intake manifolds 30, 32 are installed on the cylinder head 14, and these are connected to the intake ports 20 respectively. In this case, two intake ports 20, 20 are provided in parallel on both sides of a center line which extends from the center of a cylinder and at a right angle to the longitudinal axis of the cylinder head 14. And, a fuel injection valve 34 is provided close to this center line on the intake port 20 on the low load side. Also, an intake control valve 48 which is opened and closed in accordance with the operating condition of an engine is provided on the intake manifold 32 on the high load side.
