441,323. Secret contact-combination switches. TARR, R. A., 45, New Church Street, Cape Town, South Africa. April 30, 1935, No. 12840. Convention date, May 15, 1934. [Class 38 (v)] A combination switch which may be used in the ignition circuits of motor vehicles comprises a series of concentric rings of fibre or like insulating material independently rotatable with respect to each other and to an outer stationary ring and to a centre pin, the rotatable rings being provided with spring-pressed contacts which are adapted to be brought into radial alignment to establish connection between contacts on the centre pin and outer ring. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 a series of rotatable insulating rings 6 .. 8 are mounted between an outer fixed ring 4 and a centre pin terminal 14. Each of the rotatable rings carries a radial contact comprising a spring-pressed ball contact 9 .. 11 and when as shown, these contacts are brought into radial alignment with a contact 18 within the fixed outer ring a circuit to the central pin terminal is completed. Each ring bears an operating knob 16, the outer ring having the letters of the alphabet on its face and the inner rings indicating marks to enable the combination to be set up and the circuit completed. The operating knobs 16 terminate at their inner ends in spring-pressed conicalended plungers 15 which co-operate with corresponding recesses in the base-plate to retain the rings in position. |
