PURPOSE:To quickly and accurately collate characters regardless of the size of a display picture by evolving the character string font of a slip to be read onto a virtual picture in a prescribed collation form and displaying a part or the whole of said character font. CONSTITUTION:When a slip reading instruction is received from an input device 4, a CPU 6 sends a form related to a slip stored in an external memory 9 to an OCR 13. Then an objective slip is set at a reader 14 and the OCR 13 reads the characters and an image out of an original image to store them in an extended memory 8 via the CPU 6. The CPU 6 rearranges the fonts of the character data and the image data on a virtual picture of the memory 8 based on the slip form and displays the images in the virtual picture area on a display device 10. An operator operates the device 4 with reference to the display picture to perform scrolling, the emphasized display, the input of characters, etc., for collation of characters. Thus the character reading results can be collated with each other in an easy, quick and natural form.
