The light from the end surface of the single optical input fibre (1) is focussed onto the segmental facets (9) of a circular mirror (5) by a multi-element objective lens assembly (3). The light reflected by the multi-facetted mirror (5) passes back through the lens assembly (3) and is focussed to produce identical images of the input signal on the ends of the output fibres (8), which are set into a circular plate. The output ends (8) are arranged in a circle around the central input fibre end (13).
