PURPOSE:To make possible the balanced development of a character pattern by preparing a plurality of items of additional bit position data for the enlargement of a character pattern, selecting items of the additional bit position data per character to add dots, and selecting items of the additional bit position data which makes the thickness of a character line the same. CONSTITUTION:In order to enlarge a character 'KAN' 4/3 times the size of its original character pattern, additional bit position data for making the linear thickness of the character 'KAN' the same is selected through a selection means for additional bit position. Then, an enlargement means 14 reads this selected additional bit position data from a storage means for additional bit position 12, then adds the same data to a character pattern from a character pattern storage means 11 based on the additional bit position data which is read, and outputs the character pattern added with the same data to a storage means for an enlarged character pattern 15. Consequently, for instance, the linear thickness of the character 'KAN' which is enlarged 4/3 times the original size becomes the same, so that the character can be enlarged in a well-balanced form. |
