PURPOSE: To enable the use of an optical waveguide having a specified ratio of the refractive index of the core to that of the cladding even at the b.p. or above without remarkably limiting transmission length by specifying the materials of the core and cladding. CONSTITUTION: In an optical waveguide in which the ratio of the refractive index of the core to that of the cladding is >1.01, the core is made of a polymer contg. units derived from 30-50wt.% vinylidene fluoride based on the amt. of the polymer, 25-55wt.% tetrafluoroethylene and 15-25wt.% hexafluoropropylene and the cladding is made of a polymer contg. units derived from <30wt.% vinylidene fluoride based on the amt. of the polymer, tetrafluoroethylene and hexafluoropropylene or fluorinated alcohol and ester of methacrylic acid orα-fluoroacrylic acid. A low rate of attenuation, a high service temp. over a long period of time and satisfactory bending strength are ensured. |
