In order to increase carbon nanotube productivity by achieving high controllability using a simple method, this carbon nanotube production method is provided, wherein a metal-based catalyst is present in a halogen-free state in a reaction chamber and carbon nanotubes are generated on the metal-based catalyst with a carbon source as the raw material. The method is characterized in that a halogen-containing substance is present in the reaction chamber when the carbon nanotubes are generated, and the molar ratio of the halogen-containing substance to the carbon source is 0.2 or less. |
