PURPOSE:To provide a friction material for railway vehicle, having excellent adhesivity, water resistance and heat stability, and effective for the prevention of seizing and abrasion increase, and containing steel fibers, brass fibers, aluminum fibers, iron powder, graphite, resin, etc. at specific ratios. CONSTITUTION:The objective friction material containing metallic powder bonded with a resin in intertwined metallic fibers, is prepared by compounding 5-65wt% steel fibers, <=10% brass fibers and/or <=10% aluminum fibers (all metallic fibers are preferably <=100mu in diameters and <=10mm. in lengths), 5-50% iron powder (preferably low density iron powder containing cast iron powder), 0-10% copper powder (the size of the metallic powder is preferably small than 100 mesh), 10-20% graphite, 5-15% inorganic filler, 0-10% organic friction regulating agent, and 5-15% binder resin. |
