PURPOSE:To obtain the objective substance with an ultralow content of chlorinated impurities by using a fatty acid ester as a reaction solvent in reacting xylylenediamine or hydrochloride thereof with phosgene and obtaining the subject substance. CONSTITUTION:Xylylenediamine is reacted with hydrochloric acid gas at <=30 deg.C to provide xylylenediamine hydrochoride or the xylylenediamine is reacted with phosgene using esters as a reaction solvent to afford the subject substance useful as a raw material for polyurethane, polyurea, polyisocyanurate, etc. Fatty acid esters (e.g. amyl acetate) having 120-170 deg.C boiling point are preferred as the esters and the reaction of the xylylenediamine with the phosgene is preferably carried out at 0-30 deg.C and 120-170 deg.C in two stages. The amount of the solvent used is (8-16):1 weight ratio based on the xylylenediamine, etc. As a result, a purification step is reduced to eliminate thermal deterioration of products caused thereby. |
