PURPOSE:To maintain a tensile force uniformly over the whole length of an abrasive tape by disposing the abrasive tape around a slide block in such a manner that that portion of the abrasive tape which enters into the slide block and that portion which is to go out are roughly at right angles to each other at the neutral position of the slide block. CONSTITUTION:An abrasive tape 11 is put around the head portion 19 of a flat polishing device or plural guide rollers 14, 15 each mounted to a slide block 2 and is wound by a pressure roller 9 and rewound by a winding reel 12 so that while the abrasive tape is forced to travel at low speed the pressure roll is pressed into contact with a subject W to be polished to flat polish the subject W. In this case, at the neutral position of the slide block that portion of the abrasive tape which enters into the slide block and that portion which is to go out are both roughly vertical. The contracted state of both portions of the abrasive tape, caused by reciprocating movement of the slide block, is therefore constant and the amount of contraction is the same and so a tensile force is uniform over the whole length of the tape. |
