A device for the remote measurement of the index on an energy consumption meter. A gate (window) comparator (17) activates an alarm (23) when the transmission line (3) is de-energised or short-circuited, or when a reed switch (ILS2) provided for this purpose is actuated by an external perturbing magnetic field. The sensor (1), installed at the site, is bidirectional so that it is insensitive to errors in connection (6, 7 to 8, 9) at the meter. <IMAGE>
