摘要 The magnetic-cushion railway (3) proposed is a high-speed means of transport which travels at supersonic speed through an evacuated tube (2), using magnetic-cushion technology to avoid contact with the tube surface and the vacuum to reduce air resistance. Twin lines (26), with one tube for each direction of travel, run deep underground in a tunnel (1), with evacuated exit lines (27), over which the train is braked, rising to stations (23) on the surface. Re-entry lines (28) descending back to rejoin the main through-line (26) accelerate the train again. This permits trains to travel at high speed and close behind each other in the main through-line, reaching each station without delay. The trains are accelerated away from a station by the catapult effect of atmospheric pressure acting on the rear of the train (3) as it descends over the short descending section of line (28) into the evacuated tube (25) ahead of it, by the action of gravity and the magnet-cushion drive.
