PURPOSE:To provide zirconia ceramics almost free from pores in the texture. CONSTITUTION:A mixture consisting of 8-14mol% CeO2 or 1-5mol% Y2O3 and the balance ZrO2 is heat-treated to obtain powder A having 1-10m<2>/g specific surface area and powder B having 15-30m<2>/g specific surface area. These powders A, B are mixed in 9:1 to 3:7 weight ratio of A:B, compacted and fired. The resulting zirconia ceramics has the considerably reduced number of pores. When the ceramics is used as an edged tool, chipping is suppressed at the time of polishg for edging and the sharpness of the tool is remarkably enhanced. When the ceramics is used as dies, the surface of a formed wire is hardly flawed. |
