The present invention provides novel triplex forming oligonucleotides and methods for their use. More specifically, the present invention provides novel triplex forming oligonucleotides that specifically inhibit steroid hormone induced target gene activation and steroid hormone receptor transcription. Additionally, the present invention comprises a method for regulating steroid hormone dependent transcription of a cell. The present invention also comprises a method of treating a cell in a pathophysiological state, e.g., cancer.
