A biodegradable structure comprising a biodegradable support member comprising cellulosic fibres and a biodegradable sheet comprising a biodegradable bioplastic layer. A surface of the biodegradable bioplastic layer may comprise one or more biodegradable elongate reinforcing elements and at least one outer peripheral edge portion, wherein the elongate reinforcing elements have an end portion extending outwardly away from one of the said edge portions. Many variations of bioplastics are disclosed including starch, sugar and oil. The support member may comprise cellulosic fibres and a biodegradable adhesive, e.g. hydrophobic casein glue (others disclosed). The cellulosic fibres may be formed into a layered strip and then spirally wound to form a pole. Also claimed are a biodegradable support member and a biodegradable sheet and methods of manufacture. The structure is preferably a shelter such as a gazebo or tent however other options such as chairs are disclosed. The structure can be compostable. It is preferably used at campsites at festivals where waste can be a problem. |
