PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: pharmaceutical dosage forms, e.g., a tamper resistant dosage form comprising an opioid analgesic, which do not change release properties of pharmaceutical compounds and are resistant to fracture even when being in contact with alcohol; methods for producing and using the same; and methods for treatment.SOLUTION: A method of preparing a solid oral extended release pharmaceutical dosage form comprises at least the steps of: (a) forming a composition by combining at least (1) at least one polyethylene oxide having, based on rheological measurements, an approximate molecular weight of at least 1,000,000, with (2) at least one active agent; (b) shaping the composition to form an extended release matrix formulation; and (c) curing the extended release matrix formulation, comprising at least a curing step of subjecting the extended release matrix formulation to a temperature which is at least the softening temperature of the polyethylene oxide for at least about 1 minute, preferably for about 5 minutes, more preferably for about 15 minutes.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
