PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a variance from occurring between a gap at the front of the platen and a gap at the back of the platen in a cantilevered cooking platen supported from the rear of the grill.SOLUTION: The present invention provides several devices and methods for ensuring that a cooking platen 312 is level and the correct amount of pressure is given when cooking a food product. A cooking device includes an actuator which selectively moves a first vertical member and an upper horizontal member 340 up and down, thereby causing the upper horizontal member 340 to act on one end of an arm 350 and the arm 350 to rotate about a pivot 352, such that a vertical height of the upper platen 312 is adjusted with respect to the cooking surface.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8
