PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method in which organic matter containing wastewater flows into a carrier holding reaction vessel and treated biologically by anaerobic microorganisms that have grown onto the carrier, and which is characterized in that the time duration required for starting up the system is drastically shortened as well as the efficient treatment being maintained even after the start-up of the system, by promoting the microbial growth onto the carrier during the time of start-up of the operation.SOLUTION: During the start-up of the reaction vessel, the flow of the organic wastewater is started up in a state in which a carrier and a methanogen agglomerate having an average diameter of 10 μm or more and 450 μm or less coexist in the reaction vessel and the methanogen agglomerate exists in a range of 1 to 900 g per 1 L of carrier. |
