The removable gripping device for a cooking vessel comprises two members (3, 4) that form a clamp for clamping a wall of the cooking vessel (R), one of the members (4) being fixed and bearing a supporting surface (40) and the other member (3) being movable in translation between an open position and a closed position, said movable member comprising a downwardly angled end which forms one jaw of the clamp. According to the invention, the movable member (3) is designed so as to move, during the clamping of the clamp, in a downward translational direction (5) that forms an inclination angle (α) of between 0 and 90° with the normal (N) to the supporting surface (40) in a median plane with respect to the supporting surface (40) and containing said translational direction (5).
