The device (1) has a blower (2) which delivers a combustion mixture from an outlet opening (8) of the blower to a combustion zone through a burner cylinder (9). A mixing device (3) is arranged upstream of the blower and prepares the combustion mixture. A through flow reduction device (10) is arranged between the outlet opening and the burner cylinder. A through flow reduction element (13) is adjusted between a position at which the outlet opening is opened and a position at which the size of the outlet opening of the blower is reduced.
