PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing glass, capable of reducing energy required for the fusion of a raw material glass batch by promoting the fusion of the raw material glass batch and consequently reducing glass manufacturing cost.SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing glass comprises: (I) the step of fusing a mixture obtained by adding water glass to a raw material glass batch prepared so as to have a predetermined glass composition to be mixed; and (II) the step of cooling the fused mixture to obtain the glass. In the step (I), the water glass has more than 0.5 mass% and 5 mass% or less of a solute content of the water glass in the entire mixture and is added to the raw material glass batch so that a water content in the entire mixture is 5 mass% or more and 18 mass% or less.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
