A pipe and duct cleaning machine (1) having a rotatably mounted clamping jaw system (3) for securing a cleaning spiral (10) in a clamping fashion. The clamping jaw system (3) is set in a rotation by a motor-operated drive device (4) during the cleaning operation of the pipe and duct cleaning machine (1). The clamping jaw system (3) can be activated by a hand lever (5). The cleaning spiral (10) is secured in a clamping fashion in the clamping jaw system (3) when the hand lever (5) is activated, with the result that the cleaning spiral (10) is set in rotation. The pipe and duct cleaning machine (1) has a safety device (12) which is operatively connected to the hand lever (5) and can be deactivated by activating the hand lever (5). The clamping jaw system (3) is in a state of rest and the cleaning operation of the pipe and duct cleaning machine (1) is interrupted if the safety device (12) is activated. The clamping jaw system (3) is set in rotation and the cleaning operation of the pipe and duct cleaning machine (1) is started if the safety device (12) is deactivated.
