Devices and techniques for implementing virtual system management controllers are described herein. A baseboard management controller (BMC) can include processing circuitry to monitor system sensors, and to provide monitoring information for system sensors responsive to requests for monitoring information. The processing circuitry may further implement a virtual satellite controller within a firmware stack. The BMC and the virtual satellite controller may comply with a specification of the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) family of specifications to provide monitoring information for the system sensors.
