PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low molecular weight alginic acid with a simple method.SOLUTION: In a method for decomposing alginic acid, an average molecular weight of alginic acid and/or a derivative thereof in an aqueous solution is reduced by generating plasma in the aqueous solution including alginic acid and/or the derivative thereof. In this kind of decomposition method, a decomposed product with a mass average molecular weight of 7×10or less is obtained by decomposing alginic acid and/or the derivative thereof with a mass average molecular weight of 10×10or more. In addition, the decomposed product has polydispersity (Mw/Mn) in the range of 1.4 to 1.7. |
