摘要 A method of making a composite body 11 for magnetic heat exchange comprises deforming a composite body 11 which includes a binder 14 and a powder 12 with a magnetocalorically active phase, or elements for making such an active phase, such that at least one dimension of the composite body 11 changes t1 t2. The deformation may be plastic in nature and provide a change of dimension which is ten percent, or more, of that of the original dimension. Rolling, pressing or extruding may be used to deform the composite body 11 to form elongate, rod, ellipsoid, disc, sheet or ribbon shaped bodies. The said composite body 11 can be a granule or a solid working component of various sizes. The deformation may take place in a composite body 11 with a binder 14 of poly-alkylene-carbonate where the temperature is twenty degrees Celsius above that of the glass transition temperature TG of the binder14. The powder 12 may have a particular chemical composition. Various temperature treatments under different inert or vacuum or other atmosphere conditions may be used in further processing of the composite body. The method may provide a cheap effective industrial process.
