[Class 60] A slicing - machine having a circular knife is fitted with a sharpening device consisting of a grinding wheel 2 and a burr-removing wheel 3 mounted in a castmetal holder 1 which is pivoted about a horizontal axis 6 to a sleeve 7 rotatably mounted on the knife-guard 11. As shown, the holder rests on an adjustable pin 14 on the guard 11, the knife 12 lying between, but out of engagement with, the wheels 2, 3. The holder 1 can be moved by its handle 13 about the pivot 6, first to the left and then to the right to sharpen the wheel. The movement to the right is against the resistance of a spring-loaded plunger 15 on the housing engaging the pin 14. On the completion of the sharpening operation the holder is lifted about its pivot 6, turned to the right until a slot 1e in an extension 1d of the housing engages the pin 14, and then lowered with the extension 1d covering the exposed portion of the knife. |
