PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection color liquid crystal device which has a high contrast and displays a vivid color. SOLUTION: In this liquid crystal display device, at least a polarizing plate 101, a phase difference plate 102, a light scattering plate 103, an upper substrate 104 provided with a transparent electrode 107, a liquid crystal layer 105, and a lower substrate 106 provided with a metallic reflection electrode 108 are provided, and they are arranged in this order. In this case, retardation and the axial direction of the phase difference plate 102 are so set that light made incident from the polarizing plate 103 side may reach the light scattering plate 103 in the state of circular polarization. |
