A head-up display device (1) for displaying a display image (D) is provided with: a display element (30) including three LEDs each of which emits light of a different color and a plurality of micro-mirrors (E) with which it is possible to control the angle at which light is reflected; a control unit (100) for causing one of a plurality of LEDs to emit light and generating an illumination light (C) of a desired color by a field sequential scheme for successively switching the LEDs that emit light, as well as causing light among illumination lights (C) that corresponds to the display image (D) to be reflected toward a screen (60) via a micro-mirror (E) of the display element (30); a temperature sensor (41) for detecting the temperature of the display element (30); and a heater (42) for raising the temperature of the display element (30). When the detected temperature is out of a normal-temperature range, the control unit (100) adjusts the temperature of the display element (30) through the heater (42) while all of the LEDs are turned off so that the temperature of the display element (30) falls within the normal-temperature range. |
