The present invention provides a polyester resin having, in the main chain, a 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid unit and a cyclohexanedimethanol unit, having a high molecular weight, having heat resistance and hydrolysis resistance, and having excellent mechanical properties and melt thermal stability. In addition, this invention provides a production method for a polyester resin having a high reaction rate and the above-described properties. Provided is a polyester resin having, as main constituents, a 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid unit and a 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol unit and satisfying the following conditions (I) and (II). (I) The reduced viscosity (ηsp/c) is at least 0.7 dL/g. (II) The total amount of cyclovinylidene ends and methylcyclohexene ends is up to 80 µeq/g. |
