PURPOSE: To stably preserve powder of cobalt monoxide for a long period of time without deteriorating it by preserving the powder in a sealed state using a bag comprising a multilayered film composed of an organic polymer film and a vapor deposition metal film. CONSTITUTION: In a method for preserving powder of cobalt monoxide to be added to a positive nickel electrode of an alkaline storage battery, powder 2 of cobalt monoxide is sealed in a bag 1 comprising a film of multilayered structure composed of organic polymer films 31, 32, 34, 35 and a metal film 33 formed by vapor deposition. The film is formed into a three-layer structure 30a by joining, for example, the films 31, 32 and the film 33 utilizing adhesives and heat, while the films 34, 35 are joined in a similar manner to form a two- layer structure 30b, and both the structures are joined to form a five-layer structure. The film 33 preferably has a thickness of at least 5μm or more from the viewpoint of pinholes.
