PURPOSE:To facilitate the data input as to an area to be scanned having an optional shape by giving a position coordinate of lattice points arranged in matrix and designating a feed pitch so as to apply the facial scanning of the area to be scanned in response to the shape of the area to be scanned. CONSTITUTION:In using all the face of a work W as an area to be scanned and applying the facial scanning as to the area A to be scanned, lattice points Pij (i=1-m, j=1-n) arranged in a matrix are assumed and the position and coordinate of the lattice point Pij is given. Then the scanning and feeding of an end effector 100 are repeated as shown in a locus C along a path passing through an interpolating point and the lattice point Pij. The scanning direction X' is a row direction of the lattice point Pij in the matrix and the feeding direction Y' is in the column direction. Since the matrix of the lattice point Pij is a matrix set properly along the undulation of the surface of the work W, the scanning direction X' and the feed direction Y' are directions subject to change in location.
