333,482. Etablissements E. Jaeger Soc. Anon. Dec. 22, 1928, [Convention date]. Hand-wheels.-A steering-wheel for vehicles, ships, and aircraft has straight tension-spokes 2 arranged as chords of the rim 1 and forming a regular polygon fitting into grooves in the hub 5. The spokes are tensioned by headed cap-nuts 3 seating on shoulders of the rim-apertures 4, which may be closed to secure the nuts by angularly displacing an external apertured ring. The spokes are kinked where they cross being thus prevented from rotating when the nuts 3 are turned. The hub 5, comprises annuli 5a, 5b, Fig. 6, secured together and provided with grooves 7 to receive the spokes between them, the central apertures 5<c> serving for the passage of control means. A cover-plate 11, which may be decorative and carry controls for audible and luminous devices, is secured to the hub by a ring 10 having tongues 9 engaging a groove 8. |
