A liquid crystal display according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention includes: a first substrate, a plurality of signal lines positioned on the first substrate, a pixel electrode connected to the signal lines, and a contact hole exposing a portion of the signal line, wherein the pixel electrode includes a cross-shaped stem, a plurality of branch electrodes extending from the cross-shaped stem, and an edge stem connecting the plurality of branch electrodes at an edge of the pixel electrode, and the edge stem of the pixel electrode adjacent to the contact hole being removed.

1. A liquid crystal display, comprising:
a first substrate; a plurality of signal lines positioned on the first substrate; a pixel electrode connected to the signal lines; and a contact hole exposing a portion of the signal line, wherein the pixel electrode includes a cross-shaped stem, a plurality of branch electrodes extending diagonally from the cross-shaped stem, and an edge stem connecting the plurality of branch electrodes at an edge of the pixel electrode, wherein the edge stem of the pixel electrode adjacent to the contact hole is removed, wherein each of the branch electrodes includes a distal end opposite a proximal end, the proximal end of each branch electrode being attached to the cross-shaped stem, and ones of the branch electrodes spaced apart from the contact hole have the distal end attached to the edge stem, the edge stem being arranged at a periphery of the pixel electrode.
