Retorts; coke ovens.- Bulges or distortions in the walls of coke ovens or retorts are straightened or restored by local pressure exerted by shoes 3 which are inserted from outside the chamber 15 and forced laterally outwards against the chamber walls. The shoes are attached by toggle levers 4, 8, to a rod 2, and tubular casing 10 respectively, the top of the rod being screwthreaded and provided with a nut 12 which abuts against a part 13 of a suspension stirrup 14 resting on the top of the casing 10. Rotating the nut 12 causes relative motion between the rod 2 and casing 10, and forces the shoes 3 apart against the distorted chamber walls. Adjustable guiding props 16 may be provided. |
