Disclosed are a function switching circuit for a gateway type set top box and a gateway type set top box. The function switching circuit comprises: a network interface for sending a network cable insertion state of a PC machine to a first trigger circuit; an HDMI interface for sending the state of a television to a second trigger circuit; the first trigger circuit for outputting different trigger signals of a modem to a judgement circuit according to the network cable insertion state of the PC machine; the second trigger circuit for outputting different trigger signals of the television to the judgement circuit according to the state of the television; the judgement circuit for judging whether the set top box enters a switching state according to a trigger signal of the television and a trigger signal of the modem; and a switching circuit for controlling the set top box whether to perform function switching according to a judgement result of the judgement circuit. The automatic switching between a television watching function and an Internet access function of the gateway type set top box can be realized, and the implementation is convenient, simple and effective.
