摘要 A method for manufacturing the outer joint member 11, 112 of a constant velocity universal joint 10, 102 obtained by configuring a cup section 12, 122, in which track grooves 30, 302 with which torque-transmitting elements 19, 41 engage are formed on the inner circumference, and a shaft section 13 formed on the bottom of said cup section 12, 122 as separate members and by welding a cup member 12a, 12a2 for forming the cup section 12, 122 with a shaft member 13a for forming the shaft section 13. The manufacturing method is characterized in being provided at least with: a welding step S6 for welding by irradiating a beam on the ends 50, 51 of the cup member 12a, 12a2 and shaft member 13a that are to be joined; a removal machining step S6j for making the outer surface comprising the welded section 49 formed in the welding step S6 into a smooth surface 55 by removal machining; and an ultrasonic flaw detection test step S6k for inputting ultrasonic waves into the smooth surface 55 using a single probe 160 in a circumferential angle beam flaw detection mode at an incidence angle RC at which ultrasonic waves are not totally reflected and testing by setting the focal point of the ultrasonic waves of the probe 160 at multiple positions from the surface of the welded section 49 to the interior.
