Disclosed is a use of an isoquinoline alkaloid derivative for manufacturing a medicament for activating the AMP-dependent protein kinase (AMPK). The isoquinoline alkaloid derivative may be salsolinol or reticuline. The medicament is able to activate AMPK, and thus is effective in the regulation of cell growth and metabolism, and the treatment of AMPK related diseases.
