The present invention provides a method for automatically allocating a number of resources in a computer system for a number of applications by simulating a run of each of the applications independently, identifying a basic resource utilization of each of the resources for every application based on the simulated run, calculating resource limitation steps for each of the resources for every application, and determining the minimum resources for every application with which the respective application runs within predetermined performance levels based on the limitation steps. Further the present invention provides a corresponding apparatus.
