an internal fixation device including:
a cannulated body defining a longitudinal channel and a plurality of transverse openings; anda plurality of shape memory polymer material components positioned within respective ones of the plurality of transverse openings; and a heating device positioned within the longitudinal channel of the cannulated body to apply heat to the plurality of shape memory polymer material components to expand the plurality of shape memory polymer material components radially outward from the plurality of transverse openings.
