The present invention provides an elevator which is equipped with a damper device that also has a tie-down function capable of preventing excessive rising of a piston and falling of the raised piston at the time of a sudden jump of a compensation sheave. This elevator is equipped with a damper device that comprises: a cylinder which is fixed to the bottom of a hoistway and extends vertically; a piston which is disposed within the cylinder so as to be capable of vertical movement, moves vertically within a set region, and generates resistance based on the pressure difference between the top and the bottom; a rod which has one end fixed to a supporting frame and the other end fixed to the piston and which extends vertically; a spring which is disposed toward the top end within the cylinder and is pressed by the piston when the piston moves upward beyond the set region, causing the spring to contract and restricting upward movement of the piston; and a stopper mechanism which restricts movement of the piston from above the set region to the set region. |
