[Class 38 (iv).] In a lighting system for trains in which some of the coaches have lamps supplied from a higher voltage generator on the locomotive and the others have lamps supplied from a lower voltage generator mounted on the coaches, the coaches are provided with three through mains connected so that either system may be used. Lines 5, 6, 7, Fig. 1, are fed from two generators mounted on the locomotive. The generator supplying lines 5, 6 has a voltage of 25 and the generator supplying lines 6, 7 has a voltage of 85. Fig. 3 shows the connections of a coach in which the lamps are supplied from a local generator 13. The lamp circuit connects a two-way switch 17 having contacts 10, 12 connected to the lines 5, 6 and contacts 15, 16 connected to the generator 13 and a battery 14, so that the lamps can be supplied either from the mains or from the local generator or battery. The switch 17 may be adapted to operate automatically. |
