[Class 6 (ii).] A cage b or wings carrying rotary blades c of a lawn-mower is or are mounted on an adjustable stationary spindle a clamped to a fixed part of the machine frame d. The spindle a may be accommodated in recesses in the side walls of the frame, a flat face a<1> at each end of the spindle abutting against one wall of a recess which is covered by a housing d<1> integral with the frame. Two opposed pointed screws e offset relatively to the spindle a hold it in a position adjusted in relation to a ledger blade f. Each housing is open at d<2> so that the spindle and blades may be removed. The ledger plate f is carried by brackets g engaged by means of tongues and grooves with the frame d. Antifriction bearings i may be provided between the cage b and the spindle. The rotary blades may be driven from a roller m by a chain k and sprocket wheel j. The screws e may be held in jaws on the frame and the cage b may comprise a tubular hub. The jaws may be recessed to receive a bracket carrying a grass box. In one form, the machine is provided with side rollers mounted on spindles carried in brackets on the machine frame, the brackets having lugs for the screws e. In another form the machine is gear-driven, the gears being inside the frame, and an intermediate gear is journalled on a boss attached to the frame by studs which also secure the bracket g.</p> |
