This disclosure is directed to methods and systems for growing and/or harvesting cells. The method can include seeding cells on a plurality of carriers. The method can also include incubating the carriers under conditions suitable for cell growth.

1. A method of growing cells, comprising the steps of:
seeding cells in a first compartment of a vessel of a bioreactor, said vessel further comprising a second compartment positionable below said first compartment,
wherein a plurality of carriers are disposed in said second compartment, wherein each of said carriers comprises a body, said body comprising one or more surfaces extending inwardly from a periphery of the body towards an interior of the body; and incubating said cells together with said carriers in said bioreactor under conditions compatible with growth and survival of said cells.
