A fault protection method in the field of the communications technologies includes: creating a working path and a protection path for a service to form 1 + 1 protection, and creating, for the service, a shared Mesh recovery path separate from both the working path and the protection path. When any one of the working path, the protection path, and the shared Mesh recovery path is faulty, two paths which are not faulty form the 1 + 1 protection. Embodiments of the present invention further provide a fault protection device.
