[Class 31 (i)] [Also in Group XVI] A platen machine for cutting cardboard boxblanks is provided with an impression plate C attached at one edge by spring-loaded bolts D, Fig. 3a, to a bar B hinged to the lower edge of the platen A. The arrangement permits the plate C to move towards and away from the platen A to accommodate various thicknesses of packing or " make-ready " placed under the plate. The bar B may be of rectangular, halfround or other suitable shape in section and has trunnions b at its ends engaging bearing- lugs fixed to the platen. Catches E, Fig. 4, are provided at the upper edge of the platen A to hold the plates C in contact with the platen, and each comprises a plate-engaging strip f carried by a link F pivoted to a lever e loaded by a spring-pressed pin el.
