An aspect of present principles is directed to methods, systems, apparatus, computer readable code, and/or signals for image processing. The methods may include receiving a standard dynamic range (SDR) image; determining specular highlight regions of the SDR image; determining a luminance image by performing luminance profile reconstruction based on the specular highlight regions; determining a texture image based on propagation of texture and chromatic information for the specular highlight regions; determining an output image based on a combination of the luminance image and the texture image; wherein the specular highlight regions are determined based on clipped regions of the SDR image and features of the image.
